The Contributions of New Americans in Illinois

For decades, Illinois ranked as one of the top destinations for newly arrived immigrants to America. From the 1960s to the 1990s, Illinois was one of seven states that together attracted between 60 to 75 percent of the immigrants arriving the country each year. In more recent years, the state’s already large foreign-born population has continued to grow. Between 2010 and 2014, the foreign-born population in Illinois grew by almost 10,000 people.
