The Contributions of New Americans in Tennessee

Tennessee is one of several states that in recent decades have seen a major change in terms of the share of the population comprised of immigrants. As recently as 1990, just 1.2 percent of Tennessee’s population was foreign-born. By 2010, that figure had grown by a factor of almost four, reaching 4.6 percent. And by 2014, close to 5 percent of the state’s population was made up of individuals born in other countries.
